DA LAT IS A PRETTY CITY RENOWNED for its temperate climate, striking architecture, and lush natural landscapes in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. Kengo Kuma is one of the world’s most famous architects, celebrated for harmonizing structures with their natural surroundings. It is only fitting that this conscientious designer has had a key role in creating Haus Da Lat, the country’s inaugural ESG-certified tourist destination. Nestled in the heart of the city, overlooking the tranquil Xuan Huong Lake, this ambitious development also boasts collaborations with Isometrix, 1508 London, and Chiva-Som—marking a pivotal moment for Vietnam’s blooming tourism industry in a city beloved for its flowers.
Haus Da Lat, a project spearheaded by The One Destination, a trailblazer in ESG-focused real estate in Vietnam, spans five hectares of a prime real estate and seamlessly integrates luxury apartments, a commercial hub, and a five-star hotel operated by high-end international brands. All these elements are united by a steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. “Da Lat has always been a source of inspiration and beauty, and we envision Haus Da Lat as a transformative project that redefines its future,” said Duke Dao, CEO of The One Destination. “This venture goes beyond mere luxury; it aims to create a global heritage site that encapsulates the essence of Da Lat while paving the way for sustainable development in Vietnam.”
Industry experts have hailed the project as groundbreaking for Vietnam, and they’re right. Because in addition to Kengo Kuma are several other international best-in-class collaborators. Isometrix Lighting & Design, a British lighting design company renowned for creating atmospheric lighting, contributed its expertise to the project. 1508 London, a prestigious interior design firm known for crafting bespoke luxury spaces, introduced its unique aesthetic to Vietnam. Lastly, Chiva-Som, a wellness consultancy with decades of experience, ensured that health and wellbeing were the core principles of the Haus Da Lat experience. “The involvement of these esteemed names marks a new benchmark for architectural and environmental excellence in the country,” said a local real estate analyst.
Kengo Kuma, one of the most influential architects of his time, is no stranger to transformative projects. His designs emphasize harmony between human-made structures and the natural world, a philosophy that resonates deeply with Da Lat’s identity. Kuma’s architectural designs often incorporate traditional materials such as wood, bamboo, and paper, creating works of art that reflect their surroundings while standing the test of time.
For Haus Da Lat, Kuma has studied the city’s unique environment for over five years. His vision includes preserving Da Lat’s renowned pine forests and creating a seamless connection between the built environment and its natural surroundings. Kuma describes the project as Da Lat’s most enormous pine forest conservation effort, with architecture designed to “breathe” alongside its landscape.
“This is not just another building project—it’s a dialogue with nature,” Kuma said. “Haus Da Lat will stand as a reminder to people’s connection with nature, celebrating the environment and creating spaces that endure across generations.”
Complementing Kuma’s design is the work of Isometrix, whose approach to lighting prioritizes subtlety and harmony. Known for illuminating landmarks such as London’s Olympic Park and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Isometrix has brought its expertise to Da Lat with a lighting design that respects the environment and the architecture. “The lighting is designed to honor the building, not overpower it,” said Arnold Chan – Founder of Isometrix. The company’s system uses concealed fixtures and adjusts dynamically to reflect the time of day and season, enhancing the natural beauty of the architecture and its surroundings.”
Haus Da Lat marks the exciting debut of 1508 London in Vietnam. This project merges 1508 London’s signature approach with local inspiration, drawing from the rich cultural heritage of Da Lat. Hamish Brown, Partner at 1508 London, envisions creating spaces that narrate a story, paying homage to Da Lat’s unique character and charm. Every material and design element will embody both timeless luxury and the city’s distinctive spirit. The interiors will boast bespoke elements crafted from the finest materials globally, ensuring each residence feels like a personalized masterpiece.
Rounding out the project’s offerings is Chiva-Som, the world-famous wellness brand founded in Thailand. Chiva-Som’s involvement ensures that health and well-being are central to the Haus Da Lat experience, with customized wellness programs tailored to residents’ needs. The wellness facilities will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies and programs to address physical, mental, and spiritual health. “Our goal is to improve the quality of life for every resident while fostering a sustainable balance between body, mind, and spirit,” said a Chiva-Som representative.
A representative from The One Destination aptly describes Da Lat as a place of natural beauty and profound heritage. Haus Da Lat serves as their way of honoring that legacy while introducing the city to the world in a sustainable and innovative manner. Beyond being a tourist destination, Haus Da Lat embodies an ambitious endeavor to redefine the city and country’s identity for a global audience. Renowned investors such as BTS Bernina Fund and Terne Holdings Singapore have lent their support to what will be a premier destination for living, wellness, and investment. By combining world-class design with sustainability and cultural preservation, The One Destination and their partners boldly aim to create a landmark that encapsulates Da Lat’s past and future. We look forward to seeing it bloom.
